Put cell tower on district land

Re: Cellphone tower rattling residents (The News, Nov. 7).

As reported over the last  couple of weeks, our oh so friendly telecom giant Telus is once again conspiring with a land owner to place a cell tower on private property.

Telus obviously believes it is OK to deface the most publicly accessible iconic view of the Golden Ears mountains.

This tower is not an emergency. There are other options.

Towers currently at Dewdney Trunk Road and 240th Street are underutilized and municipal land is also available.

As the land use authority, our municipal council is actively developing its own policy.

Telus has not even fulfilled the requirements of Industry Canada’s Default Policy.

For these and other reasons, this tower should not be located in that field.

It needs to be on hold until another more suitable site is found.

The first choice being municipal land so that our municipality will reap the benefits financially.

Protect our community from this back door approach to changes to our landscape and culture.
