June 20, 2017

Today SaskTel announced plans to upgrade the High Speed Internet service in 46 Indigenous and First Nations communities throughout Saskatchewan in 2017/18.  All 46 communities will be upgraded to Internet service that is double or triple the speed of their current service, see the attached appendix for a full list of communities and upgrade details.“On behalf of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, we thank SaskTel for showing its commitment to providing equitable services to our First Nations communities,” said FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron. “In today’s interconnected world, reliable access to high-speed internet contributes to the economic success of our youth living on reserve and in remote communities.”

“The Government of Saskatchewan knows that all people of this province require access to fast and reliable communications services,” said Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “By upgrading the Internet service in these Indigenous communities, SaskTel is creating more opportunities for Indigenous people to access commerce, employment and educational opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.”

“SaskTel understands that Indigenous and First Nations people of our province play an integral role in the success of Saskatchewan and we remain committed to providing the latest technological solutions to these communities to ensure that they have equitable access to modern communication services and the opportunities that those services provide,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO.

These upgrades are part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest $1.4 billion in capital in Saskatchewan through 2016-2021.  These Investments will ensure that all Saskatchewan residents will continue to receive some of the best communication and entertainment services in the world.

All SaskTel High Speed Internet packages include unlimited usage, free installation, in-home Wi-Fi, spam and email virus filtering, and 24/7 helpdesk support – all for one low monthly price.

Added Styles, “SaskTel also proudly embraces the culture of our Indigenous and First Nations people and celebrates their successes through many programs and sponsorships, such as the SaskTel Ancient Pottery Program, the SaskTel Indigenous Youth Awards of Excellence, the Saskatchewan First Nations Summer and Winter Games, and many other cultural celebrations.”
