MO Small Cells Bill Signed Into Law

Before leaving office Friday, Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens signed 77 bills into law, including a measure to ease small cell infrastructure deployments, reported the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Missouri House Bill 1991’s primary sponsor is Rep. Shawn Rhoads (R) and co-sponsor is Karla May (D). Senator Caleb Rowden (R), helped guide the bill through the Senate, according to CTIA. HB 1991 streamlines regulations to access public Rights-of-Way to facilitate the deployment of 5G. It also caps costs and fees and speeds timelines for consideration and processing of small cell siting applications. The measure has a proposed effective date of August 28, according to the Missouri House of Representatives. CTIA SVP External and State Affairs, Jamie Hastings said HB 1991 “will ensure Missourians are 5G ready and prepared to receive the economic and civic benefits that the next-generation of wireless promises to bring to communities small and large. Today, wireless supports 134,000 jobs in the Show Me State, and more than 57 percent of the state’s adults live in wireless-only households.” According to Accenture, the wireless industry will invest nearly $400 million to deploy 5G in Kansas City, and its rollout will create close to 3,000 jobs in St. Louis, cites Hastings.

Greitens left office following a sex scandal and an investigation by prosecutors and state legislators, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
