Fibre-Optic upgrade bringing faster connectivity to region<\/span><\/h2>\n

Telus is set to embark on a $27-million service upgrade in the Penticton area that will connect 90 per cent of homes and businesses to its fibre-optic network.<\/p>\n

It will allow upload speeds of up to 150 megabits per second – 15 times faster then the best service the company offers now…<\/p>\n

… Telus expects to have the upgrades at homes and businesses in Naramata and West Bench by the end of 2017″<\/p>\n

For most Canadians, access to affordable and reliable broadband networks is an important part of everyday life. However, communities outside urban centres often face challenges in accessing Internet service at levels comparable to those in cities due to factors such as remote location and challenging terrain.<\/p>\n

Ten British Columbia Internet service providers are receiving a total of approximately $16\u00a0million from the Government of Canada to increase broadband Internet access for approximately 23,000\u00a0households throughout rural British Columbia. The Government of British Columbia is also providing approximately $3.4\u00a0million for six of the projects through its Connecting British Columbia program.<\/p>\n

Canadians in all parts of the country need access to\u00a0high-speed\u00a0Internet to take advantage of new economic and business opportunities and to connect with friends and family in Canada and beyond.<\/p>\n

This funding through the Connecting Canadians program will provide the communities with access to broadband at speeds of five megabits per second or more.<\/p>\n
