{"id":4867,"date":"2014-10-02T08:49:32","date_gmt":"2014-10-02T15:49:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emrabc.ca\/?p=4867"},"modified":"2014-10-02T08:49:32","modified_gmt":"2014-10-02T15:49:32","slug":"tribunal-ends-anti-smart-meter-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emrabc.ca\/?p=4867","title":{"rendered":"Tribunal ends anti-Smart Meter case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By\u00a0Jane Deacon\u00a0\u00a0<time title=\"September 28, 2014 at 2:29:25 PM PDT\" datetime=\"2014-09-28T21:29:25Z\">September 28, 2014 2:29:25 PDT PM<\/time><\/p>\n<p>An anti-Smart Meter group will continue its fight against BC Hydro despite a Human Rights Tribunal decision to dismiss its discrimination complaint last week.<\/p>\n<p>Citizens of Safe Technology Society will refocus efforts on a civil claim &#8211; scheduled to come before B.C.&#8217;s Supreme Court next April &#8211; that charges BC Hydro&#8217;s wireless Smart Meter program infringes upon civil rights by forcing the devices on residents, said Una St. Clair, CSTS executive director.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the (Human Rights Tribunal) sham behind us, we must go after choice for everyone in the civil lawsuit,&#8221; she said in a statement to membership.<\/p>\n<p>CSTS members allege the devices&#8217; wireless waves result in &#8220;electrohypersensitivity,&#8221; which has symptoms of memory lapses, sleep disturbances and concentration problems.<\/p>\n<p>The tribunal denied CSTS a hearing, saying &#8220;there is no reasonable prospect that the complainants will be able to establish that the (electromagnetic frequency) exposure resulting from Smart Meters results in adverse health consequences related to EHS.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A 2013 decision from the BC Utilities Commission permits the use of Smart Meters through Health Canada safety code.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now we have a single, razor-honed focus on the lawsuit to get choice for all,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We can put all our efforts, our money, our minds, our hearts and prayers into fighting this in the Supreme Court.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/vancouver.24hrs.ca\/2014\/09\/22\/tribunal-ends-anti-smart-meter-case\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/vancouver.24hrs.ca\/2014\/09\/22\/tribunal-ends-anti-smart-meter-case<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By\u00a0Jane Deacon\u00a0\u00a0September 28, 2014 2:29:25 PDT PM An anti-Smart Meter group will continue its fight against BC Hydro despite a Human Rights Tribunal decision to dismiss its discrimination complaint last week.
