{"id":6080,"date":"2015-02-02T00:45:27","date_gmt":"2015-02-02T07:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emrabc.ca\/?p=6080"},"modified":"2015-04-09T00:47:15","modified_gmt":"2015-04-09T07:47:15","slug":"conservative-mp-says-wireless-industry-is-misleading-canadians-about-cell-phone-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emrabc.ca\/?p=6080","title":{"rendered":"Conservative MP says Wireless Industry is misleading Canadians about Cell Phone Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<h1><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">OTTAWA,\u00a0Feb. 2, 2015\u00a0\/CNW\/ &#8211;\u00a0Conservative MP\u00a0Terence Young\u00a0says the Canadian wireless industry is misleading Canadians about the potential health effects of their cell phones and WiFi routers.<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"ReleaseContent\">\n<p>Young, the MP from\u00a0Oakville, ON, has introduced a Private Member&#8217;s Bill in Parliament that will require safety warnings on all wireless products sold in\u00a0Canada, because the World Health Organization has declared that they might cause Cancer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Warnings for safe use are already buried in the fine print of every device manual,&#8221; said Young. &#8220;But a\u00a0spokesman, for both Bell and Telus, has publicly responded to my Bill by saying there is &#8216;no health risk&#8217;. That is wrong and they know it&#8217;s wrong. They&#8217;re behaving like the Tobacco industry did before scientists agreed that cigarettes cause lung cancer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Young pointed out that just last week the French national government passed a similar law requiring safety restrictions on all cell phone packaging and advertising.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In\u00a0France\u00a0it&#8217;s now illegal to have Wi-Fi in day care centers, and the blanket Wi-Fi systems we put in Canadian schools are now restricted in French primary schools,&#8221; said Young.<\/p>\n<p>Young has received early support from across\u00a0Canada\u00a0and across party lines for his Bill, which will carry fines of one hundred thousand dollars a day for any retailer who sells wireless devices without displaying health warnings.<\/p>\n<p>The Bill is applauded by former Microsoft Canada President\u00a0Frank Clegg\u00a0who agrees that the wireless industry is misleading Canadians about the safety of their products.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To state that there is &#8216;no demonstrated public health risk&#8217; is simply not true,&#8221; said Clegg who is now CEO of Canadians for Safe Technology.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s well known in our industry that cell phones and Wi-Fi routers are a Cancer risk. The wireless industry is being a poor corporate citizen on this issue.
