{"id":6594,"date":"2015-05-27T13:19:17","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T20:19:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emrabc.ca\/?p=6594"},"modified":"2015-05-29T11:31:01","modified_gmt":"2015-05-29T18:31:01","slug":"100-more-smart-meters-explode","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emrabc.ca\/?p=6594","title":{"rendered":"100 More Smart Meters Explode"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><\/h1>\n<div>Posted on\u00a0<a title=\"10:05 am\" href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/2015\/05\/21\/hundreds-more-smart-meters-blow-off-wall-in-capitola\/\" rel=\"bookmark\">May 21, 2015<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0<a title=\"View all posts by onthelevelblog\" href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/author\/onthelevelblog\/\">onthelevelblog<\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_0710.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_0710\" src=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_0710.jpeg\" width=\"350\" height=\"467\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>CAPITOLA, CA\u2013 Yesterday afternoon we received yet another report of exploding smart meters- this time in Capitola, CA:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOn 5.12, the Smart Meters blew off my house and about 100 neighbors, just like in Stockton.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t see any mention of the Smart Meters blowing up in Capitola on 5.12 on your website and feel like PG&amp;E just brushed it under the rug.\u00a0 My washing machine broke in the process and PG&amp;E is not helpful at all.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This follows a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/2015\/03\/31\/wheels-falling-off-smart-grid-as-pge-smart-meters-explode-burn-smoulder-in-stockton-ca-after-dui-driver-crashes-truck-into-pole\/\" target=\"_blank\">similar incident in Stockton, CA in March<\/a>\u00a0where meters blew off houses and many appliances were damaged after an electrical surge.<\/p>\n<p>Utilities kindly correct us if we are mistaken, but this is not a phenomenon affecting glass and steel electromechanical analog meters.\u00a0 It\u2019s too bad that we have such corrupt \u201coversight\u201d that has not only allowed utilities to deploy this untested, hazardous technology\u00a0<em>on nearly every building-\u00a0<\/em>in violation of numerous laws- but then\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/2012\/12\/01\/taken-for-a-ride-pge-destroys-functional-analog-meters\/\" target=\"_blank\">destroy millions of safe meters<\/a>\u00a0making it harder for policymakers to order a recall (which of course must be done).<\/p>\n<p><em>Sounds like a stitch-up and believe us- it is.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Capitola was one of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/how-you-can-stop-smart-meters\/sample-letter-to-local-government\/ca-local-governments-on-board\/\" target=\"_blank\">15 local governments in California<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/2011\/09\/02\/no-means-no-capitola-demands-halt-as-pge-forces-meters\/\" target=\"_blank\">pass an ordinance banning the meters<\/a>\u00a0back in 2010 when we had just started our campaign.\u00a0 If PG&amp;E and the corrupt California Public Utilities Commission had respected local law in 2010\/11, smart meters may not be exploding on people\u2019s homes today.<\/p>\n<p>If the Santa Cruz County Sheriff had protected public safety and enforced the law rather than\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/2011\/07\/21\/santa-cruz-smart-meter-protests-intensify-video\/\" target=\"_blank\">protecting and escorting those who violated it.<\/a>\u00a0If the Sheriff had not\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/2011\/07\/02\/two-more-arrested-at-santa-cruz-county-smart-meter-protest\/\" target=\"_blank\">arrested us<\/a>\u00a0for civilly disobeying and rightfully blocking what we knew then was an unsafe deployment, the exploding meters and chronic RF sickness that have become part of the California landscape in 2015 might have been avoided.<\/p>\n<p><em>How many millions of unsafe meters are sitting on people\u2019s homes right now, waiting for a surge that can instantly transform them into incendiary bombs or flying projectiles?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This morning, we called PG&amp;E for comment (they always love to hear from us), and asked what the cause of the problem was, and asked for evidence of any similar incidents with analog meters. They said they would call us back. People have died and homes have been destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>One thing is for sure- the only thing the California Public Utilities Commission is protecting is corporate utility profits.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Update May 22nd 10am:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0We have not heard back from either PG&amp;E or state legislators. Bryan Carr with Engine 6, one of several fire crews dispatched Monday morning as\u00a0<strong>dozens of electric customers began reporting explosions, smoke or the smell of burning wires, described the scene as \u201cunreal\u201d when his engine pulled onto Fairbury Lane<\/strong>, a residential street in southeast Stockton. Expecting to pull up to a specific address, Carr\u2019s crew was greeted by a number of residents out on the street wondering why his engine wasn\u2019t stopping at their house.<br \/>\n\u201c<strong>In some cases, meters were literally blown off the panels.<\/strong>\u00a0People described it as hearing a whirring sound like the meter was speeding up, then like an explosion. Some of the meters weren\u2019t blown off, but they were fried and the glass was gone,\u201d Carr said.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/stockton-smeter-12-cbs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"stockton smeter 12 cbs\" src=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/stockton-smeter-12-cbs-1024x576.jpg\" width=\"337\" height=\"189\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that smart meters have shown their vulnerability to electrical surges.\u00a0 In September 2011,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.paloaltoonline.com\/news\/2011\/09\/04\/power-surge-raises-questions-about-smartmeters\" target=\"_blank\">a surge in East Palo Alto, California<\/a>\u00a0caused dozens of smart meters to fail. Despite this and hundreds of other incidents involving fire including where\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/2013\/06\/21\/when-smart-meters-kill-the-story-of-larry-nikkel-details-emerge-of-vacaville-ca-smart-meter-fire-death\/\" target=\"_blank\">people have died<\/a>, the California Public Utilities Commission has not even officially looked into the matter much less taken action to protect public safety.\u00a0 Utilities around the world continue to deny any problem exists and have been seizing meters involved in fires before fire investigators have a chance to do their work, drawing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/montreal\/quebec-city-firefighters-ask-hydro-qu%C3%A9bec-to-leave-smart-meters-alone-1.2983309\" target=\"_blank\">public protests from Quebec\u2019s firefighters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Screen-Shot-2015-03-31-at-10.56.44-AM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A smart meter face is left dangling in Stockton after numerous meters explode or catch of fire after a surge.\" src=\"http:\/\/stopsmartmeters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Screen-Shot-2015-03-31-at-10.56.44-AM-1024x694.png\" width=\"262\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It has been widely recognized that smart meters \u2013 with their plastic housing and complex circuitry- are more vulnerable to fire and heat than traditional electromechanical analog meters, built solidly of glass and metal.
