A French court has recognised a woman\u2019s alleged allergy to Wi-Fi as a medical disorder.
\nMarine Richard, 39, was awarded a \u00a3500 monthly disability allowance after she convinced the Marseilles court she had been forced to retire from urban areas as a result of her allergy.
\nMs Richard\u2019s condition, which remains unsubstantiated by medical experts, is known as electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) and sufferers\u2019 claim exposure to\u00a0mobile phones, Wi-Fi and televisions can cause severe discomfort.
\n\u201cThis is a breakthrough,\u201d Ms Richard, who has reportedly been forced to live in a barn without electricity in the rural Ari\u00e8ge d\u00e9partement, said of the court case.
\nHer lawyer, Alice Terrasse, told The Times that the ruling set a legal precedent for \u201cthousands of people\u201d.
\nEHS campaigners \u2013 who celebrated the former radio producer\u2019s successful case \u2013 have persuaded some local authorities to move mobile phone towers after residents complained.
\nAlthough French courts have refused up to now to pay disability allowances to individuals suffering from the alleged condition, some EHS sufferers have reportedly established \u201cradiation-free\u201d colonies in the countryside.<\/p>\n
