Ted Kennedy’s Death : Analysis of Glioma
“Senator Kenndy suffered from a glioma in the left parietal lobe, which is important for sensory functions on the right side, especially visual senses. The causes of brain tumor are unknown as it may be either hereditary, environmental or in some cases, it is both. One may inherit a certain gene that would cause brain tumor or are affected by environmental factors such as food, radiation or chemicals, which can cause changes in the gene, resulting in formation of tumors.” http://www.medilogy.net/health/death-of-ted-kennedy/
The Long Goodbye to Camelot: Ted Kennedy’s Brain Tumor
Dr. Ian Armstong Board of Neurological Surgery http://www.ianarmstrongmd.com/2009/11/senator-edward-kennedy/
” Particular Kind of Brain Cancer from which Senator Kennedy Died – The type of brain cancer that Senator Kennedy had is a highly-lethal form of brain tumor. They are difficult to treat and have a grim prognosis. Tumors of the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) make up 2.2% of cancer deaths in the U.S. each year. There are approximately 30,000 primary brain tumors diagnosed annually. About 15,000 are gliomas, making this category of tumor the most common type of brain tumor. Approximately one half of these gliomas are malignant gliomas, the category of tumor Kennedy had. Gliomas represent a broad category of brain tumors. They arise from the supporting cells of the brain called glia. Glia is further subdivided into: astrocytes, ependymal cells and oligodendroglial cells. Gliomas that arise from the astrocytes,(astrocytomas), are the most common tumor. Gliomas are importantly divided by a grading system: Grade one through four, with grades one and two the lowest grade and least aggressive. Grades three and four are considered malignant gliomas and have a poor prognosis. Grade three is sometimes referred to as anaplastic astrocytoma, and grade four is referred to as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) – which carries the worst prognosis.”

Massachusetts Senator Kenneth Donnelly (2017)
State senator dies after battling brain tumor
By Felicia Gans APRIL 03, 2017
State Senator Kenneth Donnelly, an Arlington Democrat and 37-year veteran of the Lexington Fire Department, has died from complications of brain cancer, according to a statement from his office. He was 66.
Donnelly, whose district includes Arlington, Billerica, Burlington, Lexington, and Woburn, was elected to the Senate in 2008. He had been serving as assistant majority leader, according to the Legislature’s website.
In August, after not feeling well during votes on Beacon Hill, Donnelly sought medical help at a walk-in clinic. He was then taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where doctors operated on a cancerous brain tumor.
Cindy Friedman, Donnelly’s chief of staff, said in a statement Sunday night that the senator “gallantly battled” the tumor for eight months.
