We recently announced we are collaborating with the B.C. Government to bring new wireless coverage to residents and businesses of Witsuwit’en Village (Witset First Nation) in northern B.C. Over 1,000 kilometres north of Vancouver, the Witset First Nation community and travellers along Highway 16 will experience better connectivity than ever before.

This partnership will result in better communications, improved safety and increased economic opportunities for British Columbians in the area.

Construction of the cellular tower is already underway. When completed, Rogers and Fido customers in Witset will enjoy high-speed wireless coverage via 4G and LTE for a more reliable and consistent wireless experience. Customers using other providers will be able to access 911 from their mobile phones.

B.C. regional leader Rick Sellers attended an event in Witset with B.C. Minister of Citizens’ Services Jinny Sims and community members. He acknowledged that new wireless connectivity will also enhance health and education delivery to the Witset community and support local businesses.

This important network build has also provided jobs for residents and is another example of how we are continuing to invest in Canadian communities while providing new economic development opportunities for Indigenous Peoples.

We know Canadians want high quality wireless access wherever they are with a reliable network. This new cell tower will enhance our wireless services for our customers in the Witset areas, whether travelling the highway, accessing community services or connecting with family and friends.
