VICTORIA – The Chief of Police says text or talk while driving and lose your phone.
At least that’s what he’s hoping for.
The BC Association of Chiefs of Police will ask the province to allow them to seize cell phones from repeat offenders.
Chief Jamie Graham says the message is not getting across and the fines are too low to make that difference.
In addition to encouraging the ability to seize and hold phones for 24 hours, the association will request that fines are increased to deter first time offenders from doing it again.

I think it is a great idea to take a cell phone away from the driver of the automobile, if caught talking while driving. A six month suspension of their cell phone use entirely would also be appropriate.
A 1996 study of cell phone users by Reidlinger, University of Toronto revealed that using a cell phone increased the risk of an accident up to six times.
What was most astonishing was the data indicated that driver distraction and lack of dexterity were not significant factors in increased rates of accidents.
What the data did point towards as a possible cause was brain impairment due to the inhibiting influence of cell phone radiation on the brain. A fact that is seemingly incomprehensible by a society full of brain addled individuals.
