Dear Editor:
Gary Murphy, chief project officer BC Hydro Smart Metering Initiative, claims “there are tremendous amounts of misinformation that are causing unnecessary fear and anxiety.” He might be correct, there is an easy way to disprove the misinformation. Make both the end point meters and the Central Relay Meters available to be tested along with any other parts of the Smart Grid system that the public has concerns about. Make the plans of the meters available to the public so that those among us that are qualified electronically can see that the meters can not cause harm. Certify that the meters are set up to transmit as though they were in regular operation. Agree to compensate at a punitive amount any person that finds a meter that exceeds the published emission rates. And finally, agree to test the radiation from the meter and provide the client with a report twice a year.
The solution is simple, if they agree to do this, then there is a level of assurance as much as one can rely on a government agency; refuse to do this, then the public will know the misinformation is coming from the BC Hydro/government side.
